Zack Space Featured In Sports Illustrated?!?
It's not exactly the usual place for political discussion, but Zack Space's bet with a Washington Congressman over yesterdays football game made it on SI.com late last week.
The Buckeye's won yesterday's game, beating Washington 33-14.

Almost every politician I know of makes this sort of bet and I hate it. I know it's just for fun, but I think it sends the wrong message. "We think gambling is fun!"
I've gambled a little in my life, even played the slots when I went to Vegas last month (a whopping $19), but I still dislike it when a politician gambles.
I don't have any problem with it, it's a fun way to show off a state's products.
Why not an exchange of products before the game? You could even add some smack talk (e.g. "I know your team is gonna get creamed, so here are some bananas to go with the cream" or whatever).
Years ago, I taught a class in Olympia Wash. One of the locals was from NC. We talked about the area and the next day he brought me some locally made candy made with locally grown dates. I took it home to the family and we enjoyed it.
Showing off local products is good. Promoting gambling is bad.
Ok. I know I'm a prude and a hypocrite too (I admitted to the slots). I just think it's the wrong message and that there are other ways to give the positive side...
If they just exchanged gifts it would get the products in the newspaper like a friendly bet does. Besides it's a fun way for public officials to root for their local sports teams. There is a point where gambling is bad but i just don't think this falls anywhere near that area.
